Evidence-informed and engaging maths in the early years with children aged 3 – 7 years

E4L professional development kit

Evidence for Learning have produced a set of professional development (PD) kits on priority topics, supporting leaders in school and ECE settings to deliver high-quality PD for educators. These kits are informed by the best available global evidence and include activities to help put evidence into practice.

This PD kit supports leaders to introduce educators to:

  • The evidence on maths in the early years from E4L’s Guidance Report on maths with children aged 3 – 7 years.
  • Practical, evidence-informed strategies for maths in the early years such as embedding maths throughout the day, making the most of storybooks, and using manipulatives and representations.

This PD kit supports the facilitation of 3x PD sessions (2x 30 minutes, 1x 35 minutes) designed to be delivered by a facilitator with a group of educators in ECE or lower primary settings. Between each session, educators will have the opportunity to try new evidence-informed strategies.
