Make the most of the rest of the school holidays by giving your kids a head start on learning for the year

To help families make the most of the last of the school holidays, Evidence for Learning has released a set of fun and free activities for home that are based on the best evidence about learning, to help beat school holiday boredom and the holiday slide in education.

Director of Evidence for Learning, Matthew Deeble, said:

Most kids have been on holidays for about five weeks now and no doubt school holiday boredom is setting in for many households.’

Learning isn’t confined to classrooms – there are learning opportunities at home, at the park, at the pool, at the grocery shop – just about anywhere.

With just a few small tweaks, families can turn popular school holiday activities, like going for a swim or camping, into an educational experience, without making it seem like schoolwork.

Even those dreaded hours in the car on long family road trips can be made more peaceful and educational with a bit of planning.’

  • The evidence behind the activities can be found at Resources for parents.
  • Visit the Daily Telegraph for the Summer School activities you can do with your child to supercharge their learning at home. Part 1 and Part 2.
  • Read an interview with Matthew Deeble, Director of Evidence for Learning on ways you can help your child develop a love of learning with a few simple habits.
