VEYLDF supports all children’s learning and development from birth to eight years. It focuses on early experiences and learning from birth and gives best practice advice to early childhood professionals on ways to support children and families. The VEYLDF provides a common language to describe young children’s learning and principles to guide practice.
The vision and purpose of the VEYLDF is to guide early childhood professionals in a collective effort with families toward the achievement of the nationally agreed Early Years Learning Outcomes.
The VEYLDF sets out outcomes and practices to guide early childhood educators in their work with all families and their children. Supporting children to progress toward these outcomes, in conjunction with their families, is the core of the VEYLDF.
The VEYLDF has three key elements: Practice Principles, Outcomes, and Transitions and continuity for children and families.
The E4L Early Childhood Education Toolkit has been mapped to the five Outcomes in the VEYLDF:
- Children have a strong sense of Identity
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators.
The Early Childhood Education Toolkit can help children’s education and care services consider the evidence on approaches across the five Outcomes in the VEYLDF. Use the links below to access the Toolkit approaches mapped to each Outcome.
